An Assistant Accountant, or Accounting Assistant, supports the Accountant in completing basic bookkeeping, clerical and accounting tasks for a company. Their duties include preparing company budgets, building and assessing financial reports and managing a business’ payroll processes.

Assistant Accountant Duties:

  • Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable departments of a company, ensuring that all invoices received are processed and paid in a timely manner
  • Oversee the purchasing department, ensuring that all supplies are purchased as needed
  • Prepare draft financial statements and reports for company management
  • Manage payroll, taxes, and other financial aspects of the company
  • Research all costs of new procedures/products, ensuring the best pricing is obtained
  • Create and maintain financial spreadsheets and databases
