An Assistant Accountant, or Accounting Assistant, supports the Accountant in completing basic bookkeeping, clerical and accounting tasks for a company. Their duties include preparing company budgets, building and assessing financial reports and managing a business’ payroll processes.
Assistant Accountant Duties:
- Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable departments of a company, ensuring that all invoices received are processed and paid in a timely manner
- Oversee the purchasing department, ensuring that all supplies are purchased as needed
- Prepare draft financial statements and reports for company management
- Manage payroll, taxes, and other financial aspects of the company
- Research all costs of new procedures/products, ensuring the best pricing is obtained
- Create and maintain financial spreadsheets and databases
- Create and maintain spreadsheets and databases for financial record keeping
- Create and maintain spreadsheets and databases for financial record keeping
- Record, code, and summarize accounting data using accounting packages
- Train junior employees on accounting procedures
- Develop and maintain spreadsheets and databases for financial record keeping
Assistant Accountant Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review journal entries, bank reconciliations, account reconciliations, and other financial transactions
- Maintain fixed asset database
- Support accounts payable and receivable
- Review financial statements and reports
