Uganda’s Coffee Appeal at Hamburg’s Coffee Cupping

Uganda made its case for growth in organic and specialty coffee at one of Europe’s largest coffee events—Hamburg. On November 17, Deputy Ambassador Danny Mayanja Ssozi addressed German coffee investors, roasters, and importers at the Coffee Cupping event. He urged them to deepen their engagement with Uganda’s coffee industry.

Hamburg, Europe’s largest coffee-importing port, offered a perfect platform. The event, organized by SeraWild Coffee and the Uganda Embassy in Berlin, drew top coffee roasters, traders, and enthusiasts. Guests enjoyed curated tastings of Uganda’s best beans, showcasing the country’s rich coffee-growing regions.

A Sensory Tour of Uganda’s Coffee Regions

The event, themed “Mountains to Mug: A Sensory Tour of Uganda,” emphasized Uganda’s connection to nature. Ambassador Ssozi explained that the country’s coffee-growing regions—from Mount Elgon to the Rwenzori Mountains—shape every cup. He noted, “Each cup tells the story of our highland soils, sunlit slopes, and fertile forests where wild coffee still grows naturally.”

The coffee from these areas reflects the hard work of millions of Ugandans, with each sip embodying the spirit of their landscapes.

Strengthening Partnerships in Coffee Trade

Ssozi also highlighted Uganda’s strong relationship with Germany. The event allowed Uganda to build stronger commercial ties with German investors and connect producers directly to European buyers.

He added, “Strengthened coffee trade supports our shared goals of sustainability, fair value, and inclusive growth.” By working with Ugandan farmers and exploring Uganda’s coffee profiles, German investors can help improve local livelihoods.

A Strategic Push to Anchor Uganda in Europe’s Coffee Market

The Hamburg event was part of Uganda’s broader strategy to increase its presence in Europe’s specialty coffee market. The sector is now defining global coffee demand and becoming increasingly valuable.

Lead organizer Milly Nafuma, founder of SeraWild Coffee, emphasized Uganda’s commitment to quality. She said, “Uganda delivers coffee that reflects the richness of our land and the hard work of farmers.” Uganda continues to focus on sustainable production while aiming for the global recognition of its high-quality coffee.
