Moscow Bombing Kills Three Near Site of Recent General’s Assassination

A bomb exploded in Moscow on Wednesday, killing three people, including two police officers. The officers approached a suspicious man near the site of a recent assassination, where a Russian general was killed by a car bomb two days earlier. Russia blamed Ukrainian intelligence for the attack on the general.

This bombing is part of a series of attacks targeting Russian military figures and pro-war supporters during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Ukrainian military intelligence has claimed responsibility for many of these attacks.

Russia’s State Investigative Committee confirmed the deaths of two police officers and a third person, whose identity remains unclear. Authorities opened criminal investigations for the murder of law enforcement officers and illegal trafficking of explosives.

Local residents described the blast as loud and powerful. Alexander, a nearby resident, said, “It was a loud bang — like the car explosion a few days ago.” Roza, another neighbor, said the explosion woke her up in the early hours, shaking the entire building.

Unofficial Russian Telegram reports suggest the bomber was one of those killed, detonating the device when officers approached him. However, Reuters could not verify these details.

The bombing occurred near the spot where Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of Russia’s General Staff army operational training directorate, was killed on Monday. Russia has accused Ukraine of being behind Sarvarov’s killing, but Ukraine has not officially commented.

In response, the Myrotvorets website, an unofficial Ukrainian platform, updated its database, stating that Sarvarov, aged 56, had been “liquidated.”
