Deadly Pennsylvania police shooting
Three officers were killed and two others critically injured in a tragic Pennsylvania police shooting during a domestic-related investigation. The incident took place in North Codorus Township, a rural area of York County, about 100 miles west of Philadelphia. Authorities said the gunman, who opened fire on police, was later shot dead at the scene.
The violence unfolded around 2:00 p.m. local time, forcing a nearby school district to briefly shelter in place. Images showed injured officers being airlifted in a Medevac helicopter. Officials later confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the public.
State response and tributes
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro visited the area to meet grieving families, describing the officers as “precious souls who served this county, this commonwealth, and this country.” He ordered all state flags lowered to half-mast in their honor.
FBI Director Kash Patel also pledged federal support, saying agents are assisting state and local authorities. “Our prayers are with the officers, their families, and the entire York County community,” Patel said.
Ongoing investigation
Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris of the Pennsylvania State Police said the case was linked to an investigation that began the previous day, though further details remain limited. The motive behind the attack has not been publicly disclosed.
The Pennsylvania police shooting underscores the ongoing toll of gun violence in the United States, adding to a growing list of tragedies that continue to test communities and law enforcement nationwide.
