Sudan RSF Attack on El-Fasher Camp Kills 40

The Sudan RSF El-Fasher Attack has left at least 40 people dead and 19 injured in North Darfur, intensifying the country’s ongoing humanitarian disaster. Local rights groups say the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted Abu Shouk displacement camp, home to about 450,000 famine-stricken residents.

Brutal Assault on Civilians

On Monday, RSF fighters stormed parts of the camp, attacking residents inside their homes. Activist networks, including the Resistance Committees in el-Fasher, condemned the assault as a severe violation of human rights. Satellite images from Yale University’s Humanitarian Research Lab showed around 40 RSF vehicles in the camp’s northwest sector, confirming witness reports.

Evidence of War Crimes

Researchers from Yale HRL analyzed photos and videos appearing to show RSF members shooting at civilians trying to escape, using ethnic slurs. Additional satellite imagery indicated that the RSF blocked key escape routes from el-Fasher, trapping civilians in dangerous zones.

Famine and Humanitarian Crisis

The Abu Shouk camp is one of Sudan’s most famine-affected sites. The U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported over 60 deaths from malnutrition in el-Fasher in just one week, mostly among women and children. U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric described Sudan’s overall situation as “extremely dire,” with more than 12 million displaced and at least 40,000 killed since the war began in April 2023.

Conflicting Military Claims

The Sudanese army said it repelled a major RSF offensive in el-Fasher, destroying 16 vehicles and capturing 34. The RSF claimed it had advanced and seized military equipment but provided no details. Darfur Governor Mini Arko Minawi declared the city had “prevailed over those who betrayed their land.”

Violence Spreads to North Kordofan

The Sudan Doctors Network reported that RSF forces displaced more than 3,000 families from 66 villages in North Kordofan this month, looting property and livestock. Many survivors fled to Khartoum and White Nile provinces. The U.N. confirmed recent attacks killed 18 civilians and wounded many more.

Conclusion

The Sudan RSF El-Fasher Attack underscores the escalating violence and deepening humanitarian crisis in Sudan. With millions facing starvation, displacement, and daily threats to life, international aid groups warn that without urgent intervention, the country risks an unprecedented disaster.
