KAMPALA UGANDA| President, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to commission off Nakivubo Stadium at Close of November 2023. This was all discussed and agreed in a meeting held yesterday, November 7, 2023 between Ugandan based billionaire Dr. Hamis Kiggundu and Uganda’s incumbent president Yoweri Museveni.Nakivubo Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in KampalaUganda, located in the Central Business District of Kampala City surrounded by Ham Shopping Grounds, within a walking distance from the New Taxi Park, occupying 12.455 acres (50,400 m2).The Stadium was developed in 1926 on land donated by the Kabaka of Buganda at the time and It hosted the first match on 1 April 1926 between the Uganda National Team and the Under-18 National team of Uganda.It was improved and modernized in 1954 by the British colonial government to commemorate the lives of Ugandans killed during the Second World War following the passage of the “Nakivubo War Memorial Act” by the Parliament of Uganda.

In 2015, President Museveni asked Dr. Kiggundu to redevelop and upgrade Nakivubo Stadium into a modern sports facility through a joint venture between the government of Uganda as the owner and Hamis Kiggundu through his Ham Enterprises as the developer and new operator. Reconstruction works began in June 2017 with demolition of the old worn-out structures and the construction of new infrastructures from scratch including retail shops inside the outside walls of the facility and increase the seating capacity from 21,000 to 35,000, which has been ongoing, at an estimated cost of US$200 million, upon final completion. As of November 2023, the reconstruction process is partially completed and set to open at the end of month to accommodate Football, Netball, Basketball, and all indoor games with a 72 room sports hostel.Nakivubo was named Hamz Stadium in recognition of Ham the developer.Follow us on X. Send us a secure tip
