A deadly Nigeria security attack in Edo state left eight officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) dead and several others injured. Gunmen ambushed a convoy transporting NSCDC personnel and Chinese expatriates working with BUA Cement on Friday.
NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale confirmed the attack on Saturday. He said four Chinese workers who were kidnapped were later rescued, but one remains missing. The clash also left four NSCDC operatives seriously wounded.
The incident highlights Nigeria’s worsening security crisis. Armed groups frequently target security officials and foreign workers in different regions. While kidnappings are more common in the north, gangs have also expanded operations to southern states, seizing civilians and expatriates for ransom.
Authorities have launched investigations into the Edo assault, but the attack underscores the rising risks faced by businesses and security forces in the region. The Nigeria security attack adds to growing pressure on the government to curb escalating violence nationwide.
