The Ham Group of Companies is a privately owned multinational industrial conglomerate based in Uganda, founded by the visionary entrepreneur Dr. Hamis Kiggundu. Headquartered at The White House, the group is one of East Africa’s largest conglomerates, employing over 7,000 people across diverse sectors of the economy. With a strong footprint in Uganda and international operations in the US, Dubai, and the UK, the Ham Group represents a model of diversified business growth and industrial innovation.

History and Growth of the Ham Group

The Ham Group was established in 2005 by Dr. Kiggundu, initially concentrating on garment trading. Dr. Kiggundu gained early business experience by assisting his father, Hajji Segawa, in his textile shop. This early exposure to retail and textiles laid the foundation for his entrepreneurial journey. Using capital provided by his father, he started his own small business during school holidays, quickly learning critical lessons in trade, customer service, and business management.

As his business acumen grew, Dr. Kiggundu expanded into real estate, buying and selling land and properties across Kampala. In 2009, he established Ham Enterprises (U) Ltd, marking the formal beginning of the group’s entry into property development. The first landmark project was Ham Towers, completed in 2010, followed by the Ham Shopping Mall, which took just 18 months to complete. These projects significantly boosted rental income, enhanced the group’s credibility, and enabled access to bank financing for further expansions.

By 2021, the Ham Group had moved into large-scale industrialization, particularly in agro-processing. The US$156 million Integrated Agro-Processing Industrial Plant (IAIP) at Akright City became a pilot project for adding value to Uganda’s agricultural produce, contributing to national food security, industrial growth, and employment creation.
