A junior accountant maintains and compiles financial reports and statements in compliance with government regulations and requirements. The junior accountant may analyze balance sheets, manage general ledger accounts, update financial statements, maintain accounts receivable and accounts payable, pay monthly payroll, and prepare financial reports. Accountants, auditors, and junior auditors typically work full-time. Overtime hours may be required during tax season or at the end of the fiscal year.

Junior Accountant Duties

  • Perform all duties relating to accounting activities
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and reports, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
  • Oversee and review financial transactions and procedures with the appropriate departments
  • Review accounts payable s, accounts receivable, and payroll reports to ensure accuracy and ensure adherence to GAAP
  • Maintain all accounting records, systems, and reports, including cash flow analysis, accounts receivable aging, and accounts payable aging
  • Maintain complete and accurate records and reports in relation to general ledger, financial statements, and budgets
  • Maintain the organizational chart
  • Maintain accurate and timely completion of special projects and recurring tasks

Junior Accountant Responsibilities

  • Work with the Finance Manager to prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reports for Senior Management
  • accounts payable including invoices, purchase orders, and wire transfers
  • Process accounts receivable including monthly billing to customers
  • Process sales tax quarterly and monthly
  • Assist with general ledger reconciliations
  • Assist with tax filings, including 1099s, 1042s, and 940s
  • Execute other finance-related projects and tasks as assigned
  • Maintain and support corporate infrastructure
  • Perform other accounting-related tasks as assigned
