Delta Air Lines, Inc. is a major airline of the United States headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, US. Its history begins on March 2, 1925, with the world’s first aerial crop-dusting operation called Huff Daland Dusters, Inc.

   Collett Everman Woolman, general manager and later Delta’s founder and the first CEO, acquired the company’s assets with a group of investors and incorporated Delta Air Service on December 3, 1928. The name of the company was chosen after the Mississippi Delta region.

In October 1930 the airmail contract for the route Delta was awarded to another airline, which purchased the assets of Delta Air Service.

   Delta Air Corporation was incorporated on December 31, 1930, after the banker Travis Oliver, acting as a trustee, C.E. Woolman, and other investors purchased back the crop-dusting assets of Delta Air Service.

   In 1945, the company officially adopted the name of Delta Air Lines.

   In June 2000, Delta Air Lines, Aeroméxico, Air France, and Korean Air founded SkyTeam airline alliance, one of the world’s major three airline alliances, agreeing to cooperate on a substantial level.


   The company provides scheduled air transportation for passengers and cargo, as well as jet fuel and non-jet fuel products.

   With more than 91 000 employees, Delta Air Lines, Inc. is a Fortune 500 company that operates flights to 52 countries. It is considered one of the world’s largest airlines by the number of scheduled passengers carried, revenue passenger-kilometers flown, and fleet size, and has been recognized as a Fortune’s top 50 Most Admired Company. According to Forbes, it is considered one of the top 2000 largest public companies in the world.
